Women, Empower One Another!

I stumbled across this quote on Pinterest and it really spoke to me. I think any woman in, in any position of leadership, professional or personal, who has to work with other women has witnessed the two different sides to this. Working with someone who is competing, and working with someone who empowers. What a difference!

As women I think it has been ingrained in us at an early age that to snag the "school heartthrob" we had to compete with one another for attention. There wasn't enough room for all of us. It was a race to the top of the social queen mountain.

But what I think is a huge shame is how we've continued this mindset; that life a competition, to the bitter end. We grow up and enter working environments where there are catty women who can't share the spotlight. It is always that one woman who ends up on top and must take down all other women on their way to get there.

But this is a huge hindrance to the progress of women. Instead of trying to work together, we work against each other. How must that look to our male counterparts? How can they professionally handle our cattiness?

I think if we want to move forward as a gender we must see each other as friends. There need not be competition. We can all share our secrets for success, our support, and our company with each other without feeling like there isn't enough to go around. Because there is always enough room at the top for all of us, if we help each other up, and if we can see each other as a friend, not a foe.
