Tools for Nerds

What many people don't know about me (until maybe 5 minutes after they meet me) is that I am a total nerd. I embrace my nerdiness, or geekiness, because it means that if you're having some computer woes or you're looking for someone who loves designing silly things like flyers, brochures, web headers, etc., I can be your knight in shining armour. Another also surprising tidbit of information about myself is that I am basically self-taught when it comes to graphic design and most web applications. I just love the thrill of figuring out how to make things work and the ability to integrate my creative side with my strategic, development side.

But back to being self-taught, at an early age I realized the computer could basically serve as my guidebook. I found out that there are many websites out there that focus specifically on providing valuable information you can use to learn basically any skill! (And free!! I love free!)

Here are some of my favorites:

http://www.ted.com/
http://www.adobe.com/designcenter.html
http://www.youtube.com/
http://www.w3schools.com

Anyways, these are pretty basic but within them you can search practically anything having to do with design, website design, adobe software, etc. and find step-by-step tutorials. I've also signed up for the Creative Cloud through Adobe so I have the most up to date software at home for a reasonable monthly fee and I must admit that I am not disappointed. If you're considering going out on your own and learning to design then you should feel confident knowing there are many, many, many more resources out there beyond what I've listed. Good luck! And may your internet connection always be fast! :)
