Ah! I'm having a difficult time focusing on work today. Only 24 hours until I'm getting to stuff yummy Thanksgiving goodness into my belly. Challenge: I have a wedding in two months! What was I thinking! I'm positive I've picked about the worst date possible for our wedding. Argh!
On another note, I'm trying really hard to focus at work today. I have been quite productive, somewhat, kind of, and here are a few tips to how I'm managing to focus when no part of my body wants to today:
1. Keep up the good fight
Its amazing how much work you can do on auto-drive or without over thinking it. Responding to e-mail, admin tasks, things you do all the time, all of these things can still be accomplished when you're dreaming of turkey and dressing
2. Do semi-productive things
I have been meaning to do extra work researching my field and catching up on related blogs. Now these things are not vitally essential tasks but are still productive and related to the job. They are things my mind is allowing me to accomplish
3. Plan your time when you return
Sure, my mind is not working at full capacity, but my mind when I get back will be rocking! So I'm spending some time now to plan out what my week will be like next week. That way, when I am in a better frame of mind I will check things off my to-do list left and right because of all of the pre-planning I've done
4. Clean out your inbox
This is an ongoing struggle for me. It seems as soon as I delete 100, 100 more e-mails have jumped into my inbox. I really like to keep all my e-mails neat and tidy, organized or deleted, and today is a wonderful day to go through them (what is usually a mind numbing task)
5. Research company folders
My job did not come with a guidebook so I've been searching through old databases and files to see what other bread crumbs others in my position or related to my position might have left behind. This task of combing through company files sounds like it could be a fun treasure hunt. Alas, far from it. About 2% pertain to my job and/or is actually up to date.
Anyways, stay busy and best of luck! And I hope you have a great turkey day! "Gobble Gobble!"
